Several years ago, my then piano tuner told me that my Chickering Baby Grand’s soundboard had developed a crack and had to be replaced. A friend highly recommended I get a second opinion from a tuner and piano restorer he knew and had previously used: Gerber’s Pianoworks. Ted Gerber told me that the crack could be easily repaired and he went ahead and fully reconditioned the whole piano for far less money than the original tuner had quoted. He also took the time to explain how Chickering no longer had soundboards available, so had I replaced, instead of repaired my soundboard, I would have ended up with a very different sounding instrument. I am very happy with the result - my piano is whole, beautiful, and still sounds like the Chickering it has always been. I am 84 years old, and the piano is significantly older than that, and the both of us are happy to have found Ted - Bud Eisenberg

I have a 1926 Steinway baby grand piano and have been in the music industry as a performer, teacher and accompanist for over 50 years. Ted has been tuning the piano at my church for a number of years now. We have a Thursday night rehearsal and it is then we notice the piano is in need to a tuning. I will reach out to him late Thursday or Friday asking if he can fit us in. He always makes it work to ensure the piano is tuned for our Sunday services. There has been the occasion where he has been in attendance on a Sunday morning and noticed the piano is out, he has gone to his car, grabbed his gear and given it a quick touch up between services with out even being asked. Can't beat that for service!! He hears things most people don't even notice and is nothing less than a perfectionist when it comes to his tuning standards. We have been having an issue with the piano being effected by humidity, Ted has proposed to monitor the levels in the room to help keep the piano in tune longer. Others would just keep tuning and billing yet Ted will try and find a solution even though it could mean less tuning service for him, always having the clients best interest in mind - Peter Bruce

Ted has impressed us over 20+ years for his unusual skill in piano tuning, his dependability in meeting appointments promptly and cheerfully, his unusual expertise and keen interest in the science and mechanics of sound, his unfailing efforts to make our less-than-ideal baby grand sing, and his integrity. An example of the last quality relates to a time when he purchased a vintage guitar from my husband who set an estimate. Ted researched the item, found it had been attributed a higher value, and returned to say he would only pay the higher price. There are 3 musicians in our house and Ted has to meet the various standards of each when it comes to our piano. He has done that in spades. If he can't fix it, it cannot be fixed.
